Long Beach Water Executive Appointed to Senior Body of National Drinking Water Technical Advisers

LONG BEACH- Dr. Robert Cheng, Deputy General Manager and Director of Operations of Long Beach Water, has been appointed to the Awwa Research Foundation’s (AwwaRF), Research Advisory Council (RAC). AwwaRF’s research program is highly respected as being one of the most scientifically credible and best-coordinated in the world.

UCLA to Assist National Seawater Desalination Research Effort

LONG BEACH, CA – Today, the Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners approved an agreement with the Regents of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), for technical work associated with the Long Beach Seawater Desalination Research and Development Facility. The Long Beach Desalination Project, funded in part by the United States Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, is the largest seawater desalination research and development effort in the country.

Board of Water Commissioners Approves 7 Percent, Combined Water and Sewer Rate Increase for FY 2008

LONG BEACH, CA – Today, the Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners adopted a resolution fixing rates and charges for both water and sewer service for FY 2008. The resolution incorporates a combined water and sewer rate increase of 7 percent; 5.5 percent for water rates and 16 percent for sewer rates.

Board of Water Commissioners Adopts FY2008 Budget

LONG BEACH, CA – Today, the Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners passed a resolution adopting the Annual Budget for the Long Beach Water Department for FY2008. The combined FY2008 budget for both water and sewer is nearly $98 million.
