Education Philanthropist Frank Clarke Elected to Lead Board of Water Commissioners

LONG BEACH, CA – Long Beach philanthropist Frank Clarke was elected President of the Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners by unanimous vote today, at a regularly scheduled Board of Water Commissioners meeting held at the Brennan S. Thomas Water Administration Building. Mr. Clarke, who was appointed by Mayor Beverly O’Neill in June 2003, is serving his first term as a member of the Board. Also elected today were Bill Townsend, Vice President, and Lillian Kawasaki, Secretary.

Long Beach Desalination Featured on Huell Howser’s “California Water” Series

LONG BEACH, CA – The Long Beach Seawater Desalination Research and Development Facility will be featured on an upcoming Huell Howser television series, entitled California’s Water. The show, which features Desalination, will air in November.

Per Capita Water Use in Long Beach Reduced 12% Since 2000

LONG BEACH, CA – Long Beach Water officials announced today that per capita water use in the City of Long Beach is 121 gallons per day, down 12 percent from nearly 138 gallons per day in 2000, ranking Long Beach among the nations most frugal water using cities. Per capita water use is measured by totaling the amount of water consumed in the city and dividing that number by the population.

Water Department Receives Highest Recognition in Accounting, Financial Reporting for 20th Consecutive Year

Chicago, IL – The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the Long Beach Water Department by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report. This is the 20th consecutive year the Long Beach Water Department has received this esteemed recognition.

Grants are available to 501 ( c ) (3) and 501 ( c ) (4) corporations and organizations, as well as public agencies.
