Long Beach Fills Underground Reservoir Account For Metropolitan; Stored Water Can Supply 8,600 Families For A Year

LOS ANGELES, CA - An aquifer under the City of Long Beach is becoming another reservoir available to benefit local residents, as well as the other 18 million people within the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The Long Beach Water Department has stored 13,000 acre-feet in the aquifer for Metropolitan, adding it to local groundwater and having it available for later use.

Regional Water Leader Elected President of Board of Water Commissioners

LONG BEACH, CA -Today the Board announced the election of Helen Z. Hansen as President of the Board of Water Commissioners.  She will begin serving her term at the Thursday, October 7, Board of Water Commissioners meeting held at the Brennan S. Thomas Water Administration Building, 1800 E. Wardlow.  Currently in her second term, Ms. Hansen was originally appointed to serve as a member of the Board in August 1996 by Long Beach Mayor, Beverly O'Neill.

Executive Rejoins Forward Thinking Water Agency

LONG BEACH, CA - Ryan J. Alsop, who has served the last seven months as Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's Director of External Affairs, is rejoining the Long Beach Water Department as Manager of Government and Public Affairs. Alsop, the newest member of the Department's executive management team, is scheduled to start December 1 and will report directly to Kevin Wattier, the Department's General Manager.

Long Beach City Council Re-appoints Helen Hansen to Influential Water Board

LONG BEACH, CA - On Tuesday, December 7, the Long Beach City Council re-appointed Helen Z. Hansen, current President of the Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners, to the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) of Southern California. She will begin serving her term at the Tuesday, January 11, 2005, Board of Directors meeting held at MWD Headquarters. Ms. Hansen was nominated by Mayor Beverly O'Neill.
