An average kitchen sinks uses 1.5 gallons of water every minute. If you rinse your fruit and vegetables before meals, your could be using more water than you need to. Wash your fruit and vegetables in a more efficient manner to see significant water savings.

  • Instead of running the water over fruit and vegetables, fill a pot and use a vegetable brush to clean your produce. You also can plug your sink and fill it with an inch or two of water, sufficient for scrubbing. 
  • You can purchase a vegetable brush online or in most grocery and home goods stores. They are inexpensive, will help you save water, and will ensure your vegetables are cleaned throughly.
