How Water & Sewer Rates Are Determined

The current rates are broken into six user categories:

  • Single-family residential
  • Duplex Residential
  • Multi-family residential
  • Commercial
  • Industrial
  • Irrigation

The average single-family residential customer in Long Beach using 15 billing units may be billed approximately $41.30 per month, lower than the LA County and California averages.

For those customers who qualify for the City's utility-users' tax exemption and are on record with the City of Long Beach Treasurer, there is relief of 50 percent from the basic rate ($2.103) for each of the first five billing units.

There are 748 gallons of water in a billing unit (100 cubic feet). On the average, one gallon of water costs only $0.00281. Ten gallons of water cost only $0.0281, i.e. 2.81 cents. One hundred gallons of water cost only $0.281, i.e. 28.10 cents.
