Board Approves Small Water Rate Increase; First Time in Six Years

LONG BEACH, CA - The Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners unanimously approved the Long Beach Water Department's FY'04 Budget on Thursday, July 24. The $84.4 million budget, down from $89 million in FY'03, includes a small water-rate increase, the first rate increase in six years, bringing the average water bill back to where it was in 1997.

LOS ANGELES, CA - An aquifer under the City of Long Beach is becoming another reservoir available to benefit local residents, as well as the other 18 million people within the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The Long Beach Water Department has stored 13,000 acre-feet in the aquifer for Metropolitan, adding it to local groundwater and having it available for later use.

LONG BEACH, CA -Today the Board announced the election of Helen Z. Hansen as President of the Board of Water Commissioners.  She will begin serving her term at the Thursday, October 7, Board of Water Commissioners meeting held at the Brennan S. Thomas Water Administration Building, 1800 E. Wardlow.  Currently in her second term, Ms. Hansen was originally appointed to serve as a member of the Board in August 1996 by Long Beach Mayor, Beverly O'Neill.

Hansen, current President of the Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners, to the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) of Southern California. She will begin serving her term at the Tuesday, January 11, 2005, Board of Directors meeting held at MWD Headquarters. Ms. Hansen was nominated by Mayor Beverly O'Neill.
