Poly Science Students To Represent Long Beach In Southern California Solar Boat Race

What: Teams of science students from eight Southern California high schools will compete against one another in a solar powered boat race. Each team of students, including one from Long Beach Polytechnic High School sponsored by the Long Beach Water Department, have built their solar powered boat from scratch. The competition is a three-day event sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The event promotes stewardship of resources and alternative technologies.

Long Beach Polytechnic Wins Second Place Overall, Sportsmanship Award, In Solar Boat Competition

Lake Skinner, CA - Long Beach Water Department-sponsored Polytechnic High School placed second overall in the first-ever Southern California solar boat competition, sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) of Southern California. The team from Long Beach Poly also received the event's Sportsmanship Award, by far the most important award presented at the event. The event, to promote stewardship of resources and alternative technology, was won by Canyon High School of Anaheim.

Long Beach Water Receives $51,136 from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to create a Beautiful Long Beach

LONG BEACH, CA - Today, the Long Beach Water Department received a $51,136 grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation for two important environmentally responsible water conservation programs: replacing an inefficient 50 year old irrigation system at Keller Elementary School and the implementation of an innovative “eWaterUpdate” program to help homeowners reduce landscape irrigation.

Long Beach Water Conservation Program to Save School District $80,000 a Year; 36 Million Gallons of Water

LONG BEACH, CA – The Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners has approved an agreement with the Long Beach Unified School District that will conserve more than 36 million gallons of water and save the District $80,000 dollars in water fees, each year. The agreement provides for the installation of 49 advanced-technology irrigation controllers at 26 different schools in the Long Beach Unified School District, all at no cost to the District.

Beautiful Long Beach Landscape Grants Awarded to Birney and Los Cerritos Elementary Schools
